the v8 is much more reliable than the v6, i've owned and maintained both...plus Gts are just better cars

True, the Crown Vic Police Interceptor uses the modular 4.6L V-8, but it is a 2V engine, not a 3V. I'm not sure whether you can make a valid comparison between the longevity of a Mustang engine and a Crown Vic engine. Some engine parts are the same, but some are different.

Thanks for the input! It's been very helpful. The car is over $12,000 and is a standard. I pulled Carfax and it is a single owner. The dealer told me it was a female who put high miles on it from her job as a hospice worker. I'm hoping it hasn't been ridden too hard.

Good idea about checking for the service records -- I'll check with the local Ford dealer.

Woah.

I would absolutely _not_ get that car, unless you have someone provide you with a receipt showing it had all 8 plugs replaced.

Do a search on spark plugs breaking on 2005+ cars. The owners I know either trade them before 100,000 miles, or swap heads because the plugs almost certainly will break in one of about 3 ways.

Its extremely expensive to have service done to remove even a single broken plug, and to do it yourself is a b*tch. At least do a search on plugs breaking before you pull the trigger on this. If I had a receipt, showing the plugs were changed, then fine.

If there's any way to determine if those are mostly highway miles, I'd find out. I'd take a 100,000 mile highway car over a 30,000 or 40,000 mile city car any day.

I am about to hit 180k miles in a 2006 GT, not that you'd care this many years later.

Normally bringing back a thread from the dead is frowned upon. But I'll give you credit for acknowledging that in your post. Well played, and made me laugh.

Glad to hear your 06 is running well at 180k. I just rolled over 21k before last winter, so hopefully I can get the same mileage out of mine in another 133 years.
