Default Rev limiter question

Is the rev limiter in these cars a limiter in the classical sense? In other words, does the limiter retard the timing, or since the throttle is drive by wire, does the limiter just back down off the throttle?

If I had to guess, its the latter.

What say you guys?

0-250 rpm before the limit - Throttle starts to close (Depends on how rapidly your gaining rpm)
At the limit - Ignition Cut
150 rpm past the limit - Fuel Cut

At least thats how I remember one of the leading tuners explaining it to me.
