total opposite direction the way you are heading, but if you can, do the drive up to whistler
sea to sky is an awesome drive
1.5 hr each way to and from vancouver, lots of eye candy when you get to whistler village
have a beer or 2 during lunch, then head back down

Well this trip isn't going to be planned other than a print out of a rough route via Google maps that goes down through the states somewhere so I could make a trip up that way on the way back...

A couple of years ago, Road & Track magazine wrote an article saying that CA SR36 from US101 to I-5 was the best drive in the world. I drove it, and it's quite interesting. It has lots of curves and changes in elevation. There's also a section that is fairly straight, but the road has lots of small ups and downs. If you plan on going, check the weather beforehand. There can be snow at this time of year. Also, make sure you have plenty of fuel for your car and that you aren't hungry or thirsty when you start out. There's not much in the way of service along the way. My recollection is that it's a drive of only a couple of hours, so no real big deal.
That said, I still prefer CA SR1. If you have the opportunity, try both of them!

Those pics are gorgeous! I ended up staying a bit longer in Calgary, I am currently about 90 miles north of Phoenix, I played 18 in Salt Lake City yesterday, 9 in St. George this morning, did the drive from Flagstaff to Sedona on the 89A ... Was absolutely awesome, descending about 1200 feet in a matter of a few miles, can you say switchbacks! What a fun drive! I stopped and played 9 in Sedona in the amazing landscape that it is... Gonna make my way down to Tuscon by Monday, with my goal to play as many courses as I can along the way! Only one speeding ticket so far, 90 in a 75 but the cop wad pretty good about it so not a big deal....I think I'll quit my job and do this forever!

Just got home Monday, after a two week trip and an additional week long golf tournament in Southern BC... what a blast, I put 11,000 km on the car, not a problem... she got 22-24 mpg the entire way... only one speeding ticket ... 90 in a 75 near St. George, Utah... no big deal. I highly recommend highway 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona if you're ever in the area!
