Default drive pulley, how do i get belt back on

i just changed the alternator and im having a little trouble getting my gatorback belt back over the pulley... is there anything short of just slipping the belt back over that pulley in a 2 man job? any tips getting that the belt to slip back on?

Rotate the idler bracket to release the tension, slip the belt on, release the idler to re-tension belt

i have the tensioner thing loose, but then i try to rotate it back to lock it in, and the belt wont stretch enough to even get it to the point where it locks back in so i can tighten the whole thing down again. what do you mean release the idler

Your tensioner arm has a square hole at the pivot point. Just insert a breaker bar and rotate it until it loosens, and just slip the belt back on.

i put a 3/8" ratchet in that square thing but i cant get enough force on it to get the locking thing to slide back into its little place. it feels like the belt will snap if i pull any harder. if i get the tensioner arm back in place there is nowhere near enough slack to slide the belt back onto it or any other pulley
