Exclamation GT500 Mudflaps on a GT

I got my mudflaps in finally, and went to install them. I've read that you have to modify the GT500 mudflaps slightly so they fit correctly on a GT.

Anybody have pictures of this? or a reference to describe what is meant?

They line up perfectly with my rear bumper and the mounting screws, so I'm somewhat confused by what needs to be modified.

thx

I dont know if you found it on the search...as far as I remember about the debate on the mudflaps, it was only that if you installed them using the exact holes, most of us felt that they extended too far out and we didnt really like it much.

I know that me and a few others just decided to adjust the flaps so they stuck out only slightly. All we did was line them up so they were where we wanted them and then screwed them in where we knew the holes were on the car.

Look around page 53 and 54 on mellow's thread about updating to a gt500 front end. https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...t-pg-14-a.html There are some pics and discussion regarding the mudflaps. More pics may be later in the thread as well, but those are the first ones I came across without too much digging.

Hope that helps.

thx for the replies. I went out last night and played with it some, but haven't drilled anything yet.

I did notice that when you flip the mudflaps so the right is on the left side (& vice versa) that they line-up almost OEM. Plus the textured edge is facing outwards and it follows the body lines better IMO.

only problem is that the guards are cast/flexed for one side fit only. I'm thinking about using my oven/heat gun to make them pliant, and then re-casting the curvature.

When I installed mine, the passenger side stuck out beyond the molded fit of the flap, and looked stupid. The drivers side was a lot closer. All I did to adjust them was get a box cutter and enlarge the screw holes a bit laterally. So then I could easily position the flap in a way that it was intended to look. I mainly had to widen the top hole, the others were pretty well ok. Minor modification to the flap, at any rate.

edit: Mine's a 2010, but the same minor mod might work in your case too.

No picks on a mustang ... but on an R8 gives a flavor .. suposed to give better traction in rain - cools tires and brakes .. " google Vortex Mudflaps or splash guards "
