Perhaps Mr Shop Owner does not have good abilities with said automatics.
ok, now this thread is about to take a different turn.

What the shop owner said is very true, and for good reason. Sure, an automatic is more convenient, but they are not nearly as efficient.

The torque converter allows slipping and energy loss until it reaches a certain RPM. A clutch will not slip as long as it's fully engaged. Dyno numbers will always be lower through an auto versus a manual. This is also why a manual transmission gets better MPG.

These are facts that go beyond preference of transmission.

Whenever someone says anything bad about my auto I tell them how I fly past people on the drag strip because they don't know how to shift their manuals.

Hydraulic Automatics use more horsepower even if the converter is locked. Thats why they are going to automated manuals like Fords DCT (Comes in the new Fiesta).

My question is why it would matter to you that automatics make less power on the dyno?
I try not to race with a dyno. Pulling all that extra weight really slows you down.

Manuals don't get better mileage now. Not in these cars. And while it's true there is more drivetrain loss and a manual will trap higher than an automatic and dyno higher as well much of that advantage is negated by the fact you cannot out shift a tuned automatic car. Even if you power shift your manual.

Manuals are a PITA on the drag strip and a PITA in traffic.

PS: I drive a manual.

Automatcis are for people that fall under one of these catagories.

1. car didn't come with manual as an option.
2. Has a leg injury and shifting is not easy or causes pain.
3. Lazy.
4. Doesn't care about driving.

This thread makes it sound like you are trying to convince yourself automatics are ok.

Plus you don't lose ALL the fun of a manual by getting an auto. I installed the TCI ratchet shifter, and when I want to have a little fun, I just ratchet down through through gears. It isn't a replacement for a manual, but it does make the auto more fun.

I bought my auto for the same reasons as stated above, manual in traffic is a PITA. Drove one for almost 20 years, it was just time to change it up

Hrmm, mine came with the option for a manual, I don't have a leg injury, I am not lazy, and I do care about driving. So that makes your post a huge FAIL. Don't be a hater that your car is slower than an auto

Automatics win races.

BTW people. The lambo transmission isn't a standard manual. Let's not bring dual clutch transmissions into the picture. Totally different animal.

haha, being fast doesn't mean everything. I'm not a professional race car driver.

Also doesnt the 2011 auto get better MPG than the Manual in the v6?
Seems like in a lot of cars these days the autos get better MPG.

None the less you will not be able to convince me you don't fall into one of my catagories. Anyone who disagrees auto falls into lazy haha.
I can say i'm not lazy all day but when it comes down to it i am.
