Default Air filter change

The question is should I change my air filter after 2500 miles or wait until the next scheduled time. Its been snowing ash from the SOCAL fires for the last 18 hours or so. We are 1/2/behind the evac. line and it was a little tense around here last night with some bags packed and the grap it and run list at the ready. We cant see the flames anymore and we hope it stays that way. Hopefully the winds will stay away. Thanks

I'd wait for things to settle down a little in terms of ash falling, then use canned air to blow the filter from the inside out, or replace the air filter and clean out the airbox ducting. It might not be completely necessary, but it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your air filter. I hope you and yours stay safe, and that you've seen the last of the fires.

If you drive in normal conditions you should be ok for at least 12,000 miles?? The book in Canada says 20,000 KM

Air filters are typically good for 15,000 miles. I'd wait and be sure to tap any ash off of it. What will usually clog the filter are other very fine particles that get trapped in the paper that you can't simply tap off. Hold the filter up to the sun and as long as you can see light equally well from all areas you're fine.

Get a reusable filter like K&N, that way you can just wash/reuse anytime you question whether it needs replaced or not.
