Default need some audio suggestions

so I blew my front speakers in my 06 convert. Thinking of upgrading the whole sound system. I would like to add a 10in sub and some cheaper 5x7s or would it be better to just get some really nice 5x7s and skip the sub? Im basically looking for a little more bass, nothing too loud but then I have a feeling once I get it, I will want it louder hahaha...So maybe a 12in is what I need, who knows....also im looking to replace the stock radio.

Anyone got any suggestion on what I should throw in the car? Im looking to stay under $300 if possible

Well I was gonna suggest some stuff but then I saw you wanted to stay under $300 so I am not sure.

+1 for a pretty good just door speaker system will be around 500 or so but adding a sub/amp will bump it up a few hundred more, especially buying a good radio,

im looking at a cheap radio (less then $100 prob a used one), since I have a vert and its not too hard to cut the top I dont want anything too flashy.

How much do you think a good sub, door speakers, and amp should cost? Can I use my stock radio (shaker 500)?

i wouldn't see why you couldn't use your stock head unit...and it depends on the manufacturer you'd choose and whether or not you'd install it or have someone install it.

I think you may have a hard time finding something that you'll be truly happy with + cost of installation for under $300. You can use the stock head unit but I personally always found it easier to just get an aftermarket unit.

I don't see a problem with leaving the stock head unit in.. there are a bunch of threads on here about the shaker500 system.. you can actually replace the stock amp with a better one and put in higher quality subs in door and better speakers and people say it actually sounds good.. getting the speakers+subs+amp for under $300 is the trick. I believe the indoor subs are 8". if your stock subs aren't blowing people have said sound quality improved with just a new amp. I also have a shaker500 and I've bee tempted to do that myself... just to retain factory look and w/o adding more subs.

Shelby/Kicker subs are 150 for the pair and they are drop in replacements, about 200 for 4 decent 6x8's on Crutchfield, install it yourself and you have a decent sounding set up with the stock head unit.
