Default Bama or custom tune

Hey all, I will keep this short and sweet. I have a tune right now from a shop in town called CarFX. They are pretty well respected and even though I hate to admit it, the 91 octane I am running right now is a little rich. I know this is an easy fix, but I also noticed the other day that American Muscle offers a Bama N/A email tune for 75 bucks. Seeing as the guy messed up on the first run, I am considering going with a Bama tune after reading all of your praises about the company. I dont mind spending 75 dollars if it is a better tune, but wanted to know if you guys thought it was worth the money or if I should complain and try to get my current tune fixed???

Thanks in advance!

Did your local Guy dyno tune it? If so it should be a free adjustment I'd think.

You should be able to load your shop tune to your computer to save it so you can return to stock and then try the AM tune (actually, I always recommend also having a good custom 87 tune in the event you get stuck only being able to GET 87; happended to me twice). I think $75 is worth the try.

I know little about the 07 4.6L and next to nothing about tuning.

Does the 07 4.6L have VCT?

Also, speaking on tuning, does the Bama tune have a tune that optimizes the VCT of the 07 4.6L? (If the 07 4.6 even has VCT)

Hey guys, just wanted to answer a few of your questions...

The 2005-2009 4.6L Mustang all have VCT and yes, we optimize this in every file we send out.

The files are $50 dollars for single files, but you have to call in. Otherwise, you can purchase a (3) pack for $150 and this enrolls you in the free tunes for life program, where we will update your files for free, no matter where the parts were purchased.

Finally, as far as the mail-order tuning goes, I think you'll actually be alot happier with our mail order tune than most dyno tunes. We have access to parameters that some dyno shops do not, because of their level of training. As well, between the dyno experience of Mike Wilson and I, we have probably tuned over 4,000-5,000 S197-specific Mustangs via the Dyno or Mail-Order. You can rest assured that the file you get has been tested for years with nothing but the best/safest gains possible for your combination. I actually use our mail order files as the first run on every in-house dyno tune I do around the country. I can usually make a 2% adjustment MAXIMUM to air/fuel (usually rich, so lean it out a hair to 12.80ish) and call it a day. That's awesome! As well, I can guarantee the throttle response, shift firmness/speed (for autos), and all around driveability will feel LEAPS AND BOUNDS better with our tunes than most in-house dyno tunes. If it's not an S197-specialty shop, we usually find this to be true. There are many areas of an S197 custom tune that didn't exist in previous years. So shops that specialze in foxbody/Sn95 vehicles usually tune the S197s the same way. While you can get good AFR/Timing, and not think anything of it, there is SO MUCH MORE left to be tuned such as drive-by-wire (which you have to have completed Advanced SCT training in Florida for) and VCT that these companies often times don't know about.

Anyway, give it a shot. I'm sure you'll be satisfied! If you have absolutely any questions about our tuning, or need me to give you the names of a few references, no problem. Feel free to give me a call, PM, email or even just call in to our Bama Custom Tuning hotline!

I'm happy with my AM/Bama tunes. I went from stock to CAI /w Bama tune, and it made a big difference. Get the tunes for life and I bet you can get them to fix whatever you feel needs fixing in the tune.

Thanks, Chris for all the info.

Can you do tunes for stock Coyotes (no upgrades whatsoever) to optimize performance on 87 octane? and the same for 93 octane?

Ad is it possible to tune for fuel economy (max MPG) for 87octane? And the same for 93 octane? Again, assuming no mods whatsoever, just a factory stock Coyote.
