MGW Shifter ???
I am installing my shifter tomm. I watched the install video. What the video doesnt say is what the zip tie is for? It also doesnt say what the rubber grommet on the shifter handle is for. It is a rather large rubber grommet that appears that it would block the stock shift boot from attaching to the stock shift ****. Any ideas?

oh sorry, I did not use the zip tie. On my shifter, I followed the instructions to a T and it installed correctly. Now you may need to use the zip tie if you purchase a shift ball from MGw, in order to hold the shifter up, but hte white retro **** I have came with a retainer that lets the fectory boot latch onto, in order to hold the boot in the upright position

i called MGW about excess road noise i was getting from mine. i did not install the zip tie at first. MGW said you need to pull the dust boot up to the top of the shifter and put the zip tie on it. You have to leave enough room for the sound padding and the handle to clamp on. The combination of the dust boot, zip tie holding it tight to the shifter, and the sound padding will help with the road noise.
MGW's directions said nothing about the boot and zip tie so i did not install them. And my shifter was very loud. So i gave them a call with my problem. They were very helpful, and explained how to install the boot and zip tie.
I got the shifter when they first redesigned them, i believe i got directions to the older design. the zip tie should have nothing to do with the ball or handle you have on the shifter. its to hold the dust boot on tight.
