Default Factory AUX In plug for 2005 'stangs... (look)

So, maybe someone can tell me what THIS is..

..and yes, this was off of the "Component Location Views" section of a 2005 workshop manual.

It's possible that after the 35890 threads of people complaining about no aux in jack (just the button on the radio) that it was sitting unused underneath the center console unit.

Anyone want to go out on a limb here and take apart their center console?

...actually, there's a little access door in there to tighten the parking brake cables - perhaps you can fish around through that and see if it's near there?

From what I know about wiring harnesses in vehicles, it's VERY unlikely that they'd modify the entire harness unless they had to - I'm thinking that this plug was there all along, but they either didn't have the interior trim pieces worked out yet, or were waiting to market additional features for the 2006 model.

That workshop manual even has component location views that show a plug for satellite radio hookup in the rear of the vehicle!

Indeed - I'm just too exhausted to go in the garage right now haha.. maybe I'll check at work tomorrow.

If so, it'll be easy to wire in a standard female 3.5mm jack in there (I did this on my land rover.. hacked into the CD changer line in and just converted it to a female headphone jack! The car thinks it's playing CDs still haha) obviously this wouldn't be a problem for us (if it exists) since most (premium / shaker 500/1000) head units had the AUX button I think.

I have that aux input jack in my car straight from the factory. I guess earlier models didn't have it.

Naw didn't read rest of post. So earlier models have the harness connector but no trim piece with the input jack. Hmmm...

Do you have the shaker 500 radio? I was under the impression that the 05 through 06 models could have the aux jack but was only an option. It wasn't standard until 2007.

my friends 08 GT/CS had a jack, but my 05 never did which pissed off/confused me cause we both had a shaker 500 and i too have the button for it. in the center console i know where the little access patch is because when i got my mustang it never came with it for some reason, so i often end up having to fish out packets of orbit, trident and "5" gum from my E brake compartment. tomorrow while im sitting in my stang between classes il see if i can find out if the aux input is there. if so il be happy cause i can finally use my ipod in my mustang!

After doing some research and buying a Shaker 500 from an '08 to install in the g/f's '06 (but have yet to physically tear into anything), it SEEMS that IF the '05 and '06 Shaker 500's have the "AUX" button on the front controls (I'm at work and both Stangs are home), then all that's required is to solder the cable for the aux jack to one of the connectors going to the rear of the radio (again, I have the wiring diagrams at home) and mount the jack wherever your little heart desires.

I suspect I bought the Shaker from the '08 based on the one in her '06 not being adequate to support an AUX input but I'm not sure if an '07 or later Shaker is really required at the moment. I DO know that the front of the Shaker 500 in my '07 is different then the one in her '06.

As far as the label in the picture showing connector C3312 as the "Audio input jack", I suspect that the nomenclature is simply misleading and that it is for the sound system cabling in general. If I remember when I get home I'll look over the wiring diagram. I have all that stuff in a box just waiting for me to get off my butt.

But then again, my thought process may be totally hosed. That chit happens a lot more since 50...
