Transmission flush problem & other stuff
#12
Was there a big price diff btw fords stuff and royal purple? Because Most trans specialist with the 5r55s emphasize the ford solution for the trans are already very good stuff.

Don't know about price but with all the reviews on the royal purple that choice was pretty easy for me. I'm no trans specialist, just your average gear head that does research to make a sound decision.

no.... these are people who build race transmissions, race them, and know pretty much everything there is about mustangs. So im going to believe them. I asked about AMsoil and they said not to even waste my money, use fords atf.
I used to swear by royal purple until some issues and i no longer trust the company. Never again, but i guess ill keep it to myself.

My '05 GT w/21K developed a loud knocking, clunking noise over bumps as the suspension unloaded...(sounded like somebody with a small ball peen hammer tapping on the passenger footwell pan)...thought it may be a strut concern. It turned out to be a worn lower ball joint. They replaced the complete control arm..problem resolved. The Ford advisor told me that they have changed a "few" control arms and is somewhat of a known/common concern.
I will watch the color of the fluid and change as required or change @30K as a maintenance interval.

HERE is how a drain/flush should be performed according to Ford themselves.
Be more knowledgeable about what they are going to do before they tell you
they can do it, try to do it, and then tell you it cant be done...
You cant bullsheit knowledge...
They were lulling you into the AC/heated waiting room with the coffee
while someone who gets paid a pretty penny for his time
'just couldn't get the lines apart'.
Thats the main reason to avoid the stealerships...
(specially those right across the highway from a large body of water)

Maybe this guy is incompetent, I dunno.
Maybe???
They also found that i have bad ball joints. These they will replace under warranty...
just wondering how control arms could go bad after only 30K miles?
I did run over a few curbs this year though...ouch.
I find it kinda funny they didnt mention the need
to replace the upper strut mount bearings with the new revised ones...
I normally beat the carp out of my stang and the ball joints are
hanging in there at 33K miles. A couple of potholes wont eat up ball joints.
Neither will curbs (ball joints dont dent from heavy impact). Grooved
pavement, wider than OEM tires, unbalanced wheels and
lots and lots of turning eats them up.
The people at the dealership seemed honest and upfront,
but i was left scratching my head at the whole experience.
Advice is appreciated!
