Question Do ford dealers reset the car's computer?

Hey guys,

So I bought my mustang last December from an authorized Ford dealer. The mustang had a few mods, one of which was a Steeda CAI. For the Steeda CAI to function properly it has to be tuned. So Im pretty sure that the previous mustang owner added a tune when he installed the CAI. Makes sense right?

Yesterday a friend of mine told me that since I bought the mustang from a ford dealer, the car's computer was most likely reset back to original factory settings by the dealer during the inspection/service. As a result the tune was most likely erased. I never though about this until now and I always thought that I had some kind of a tune on my car. What do you guys think? Also, when taking a car to a dealer for service, do dealers always reset the computer? (I will be taking my car in for some servicing soon so just wanted to check).

Thanks.

A Steeda CAI will throw a code for running lean with a stock tune.

I truly doubt your dealership returned the car's tune to stock. When taking it in for service, INSIST that they state on the work order NOT to reflash the PCM.

Ya if your tune was turned back to stock you would probably get a code thrown at you. But why not get a tuner anyway right?
If you are gonna do any more mods you usually need a tuner even if you have it dyno tuned just for the sake of having a back up tune in a situation.

And yes tell them NOT to reflash your PCM.

Do yourself a favor though. Get a tuner and buy a copy of a tune with a Steeda CAI written in it just for backup. It could save you trouble in the future.

If there is a service note about your VIN and a need
to reflash the PCM, then yes it can be possable.
For them to haphazzardly reflash it for no reason... Thats a big NO.
