More than likely the pinion bearing preload is not correct.
Yes, but a new pinion crush sleeve would be needed as well...

What brand of gears.
Ford has been known to put
MOTIVE gears in their boxes.
They whine like no god could ever do.
A big ol "M" stamped on the ring gear
is a dead give away as to MOTIVE brand.
Once the bad install wears a bad pattern into
the gear set, its a whiner even if you get
the mesh right.
The mustang mags have write-ups about gear installs
but were rarely if at all go into the aspects of setting
up the proper pattern and backlash specs.
Very few can properly set-up a rear end.
They can change oil, bearings, parts but when
it comes to the rear end, they get really lost.
Setting up outboard lower units is a real chore but
once you get the hang of it its like second nature.

I would question as to what lube was used and
to what level it was placed at?
Just under the fill plug is proper.
Anything below that and you are asking for trouble....

Sweet, I should have a set of 3.73s (with and 8.8) in next week.
