I was detailing my 2007 GT yesterday. As I pulled all the leaves/grime out of the channels flanking the rear windows. Then I noticed that paint is peeling off inside both the driver and passenger side channels between the rear window and c-pillar.





Is this a known problem? I had my trunk lid repainted and some scratches removed years ago, but I don't know how that could have caused this.

The stuck junk held the acid rain and this is the result.
Keep it clean and the paint will thank you.
Its been a well known problem for years even before
the birth of the S197.
Whats the white specs on the paint and the glass in the picture?

You might find someone who will tape and spray that for you
but they probably will want to pull the rear glass in order
to be able to do a warranty-able job.
Surface prep would be nearly impossable because of the l
ocation of the damage without rear glass removal.

It's been washed a couple times over the summer, I last waxed it in June. The white specs are dust from the garage - I washed and waxed it last night, but didn't take the photos until this morning.

Just a couple washes? Drive it much in bad weather?
It gets stored in the garage or under the oak tree?
I would almost suspect you have some of that Chinese drywall
that corrodes everything in its presence if garage storage is the case.
Something is causing the dust in the garage. But what I ask.
Mine got as many washes as there were weeks in the summer.
What type of wax do you use that lasts 4 months - just out of curiosity.

It stays in a garage at night, it gets less than 10,000 miles a year. I wax it with Turtle Wax Ice.

Thats not a wax. Turtle Wax paste, now thats an old school wax.
Thats a paint protectant to be used inbetween waxing.
I tried it once and it lasted exactly one week until I washed her again.
Then no more water beading. It seemed to actually strip the wax off.
I still have the slightly used full bottle of it.
Step up to a Mequires product or Mothers SynWax for the win.
Get something with a high Carnuba content in it.
If it dont bead, its not protecting.
You paint has been neglected and you are now paying the price.

You could buy some Motorcraft Touch-up paint from your local Ford Dealer. Ask for G9 that's the paint code for Vista Blue. The touch up paint comes as a sprayer or a pen.
I would tape off the area good with some news paper. Get a small tooth brush and scrub it down with some Alcohol. Then use the touch up spray to cover the affected areas.
Getting into that small space will be a bite. Only other way is to remove the back glass.

I have a Motorcraft touchup pen that I've used for some small chips. I'll get a spray one and give it a try. Thanks for the help.

I have a 07 GT/CS black 10,000 mil and its peeling in the exact same spot as lurkerM . It cant be a coincidense

You see that sometimes inside the fenders on cars that have big gaps.
The main reasons is that there is very little clear there from the factory so the protection is minimal.
