Hello!

I have a 2006 V6 Mustand and I have about 80k miles on it. I wanted to know what your guys' experience has been on shocks and struts. My tired are wearing on the inside so that makes me assume it's the shocks and struts starting to give out. If my assumption is correct I wanted to know what kind would be a good upgrade from the factory ones but won't break the piggy bank.

If your tires are wearing on the inside, it's more likely an alignment issue. If you do decide to replace the shocks & struts, Koni STR.Ts are a great upgrade. Put them on & get a 1st class alignment.

Inside shoulder could be exaggerated by struts that have lost much or most of their bump damping (the car overshoots on the downward motion, which briefly drives the cambers more negative than they should be and more than likely the toes will briefly go a tiny bit more 'out'. Neither effect is part of the recipe for long inside shoulder life.

Anyway, one way of telling when shocks and struts should be replaced is to ride in a similar car with new ones, jump right back into your car, and immediately drive the same route. If it feels like the car is moving around much more, it's time. BTW, the current 50k suggestion that one of the mfrs has been pitching lately isn't a bad guideline either.

you should replace those weak strut mounts as well.
if you notice a bumpier ride, or the struts making noise, time to upgrage.

It also depends on how long you plan on keeping it. If you are going to trade at 100k, then it would not be a good idea, but if you plan on keeping it for another 50 - 80k, then yes.

You can go to a tire shop and get an alignment done. They will tell you how bad camber and toe is off and how it can be corrected. I had an alignment done once I lowered my car to make sure it wasn't out of spec.
