Default Can you siphon oil from dipstick tube?

Can you siphon engine oil from the dipstick tube? If so, how? I tried using 1/4" OD plastic tubing, but it wouldn't fit far enough down the dipstick tube. I don't know if there is a screen or other obstruction that prevents the tubing from going in as far as the dipstick, which fits fine. Thanks.

Short answer is yes... I have been considering this to make oil changing easier, but then I realized I would still have to get under her to swap out the filter unless I get a filter relocation kit... Anyhow, if you are still interested, here is a possible product...

I remember seeing a thing in Skymall that did just what you are talking about. I claimed that you put a tube down the dipstick tube and it sucked the oil out. I would have to say that if you can fit the dipstick in the tube there is probably not a screen.

Can it be done? Maybe, it would take forever and you won't be getting rid of the garbage that collects on the bottom of your oil pan. Draining with the oil warm is a MUCH better way to do it. Terrible idea.

Why would you choose this method of oil change if you are doing it yourself? I would rather leave my car dripping out all the possible old oil in an hour than to trust siphoning unless there is a pump attached to suck the pan bone dry including metal shavings!

I don't understand WHY you want to do that.

The reason I wanted to siphon some oil out is because the level reads a touch over the top hole on the dipstick. I thought that it would be really easy to remove a few ounces with an inexpensive siphon.

I looked into some of the more elaborate suction devices on the Internet and in a catalog; just about all of them warn that they may not work on all cars. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

I am trying to find if anyone with an S197 has actually had success in siphoning the oil, hopefully with an inexpensive device.
