Default Drifting

For some reason I was watching drifting last month or so and the guy that won the thing drove a S197. Now I'm not real sure just why people slide their car around taking 1,000s of miles off their rear tires. It would seem to me that it would be much easier to get some Hard 80,000 mile tires than try to drift with some 555s. I don't want to be clueless, but, what's the point?

Sure there is! The point is because it is hard to do, and to them, the hardness and challenge of the act makes it worthwhile. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it!

Well, drifting sure ain't my thing and I don't get a kick out of it, but hey, to each his own I guess.

I believe not only the drifting being a challenge but they must be fast. This cannot happen on hard tires. Tire smoke seems to be a popular feature. Drifting is fun.....used to do it on the gravel roads when I was a kid.....a long time ago......lol

I don't see it being difficult, more of a waste. I do it a lot on my dirt bike and I even done it once on my V-max, I could do it in my Mustang, but why? I have been in 4 wheel drift with my 04 mach, that was fun.

Why does there need to be a point to it? It's fun. Why do you drive a Mustang?

I used to drift in my RX7 a few years ago when my dad and I built it. Trust me it's much harder then it looks, you have to stay in control of the vehicle in a situation where the car is losing control. The tire smoke is a by product that makes it more fun. The main point of drifting is the precision needed to slide through the apex of a turn and through the other side. Dirt racing uses power sliding more then drifting. If you think it's easy go to a parking lot and set up some turns out of cones and try to slide through with out spinning. (note: I do not suggest doing this in a parking lot with any cars or lamp post or curbs)

Drifting is probably the most difficult driving technique there is. That's the point: Being the best at what you do, be it drag, track, rally or drift... it's all about the skill man!

i dont think you realize how fast these guys are going while sideways... first of all i dont think half the ppl on this forum have the ***** to even try and get their car sideways at these speeds. Plus they arent using really hard tires, these cars have ridiculous amounts of hp. For all you that say you could do it go out and videotape yourself and post them on her... it would make for some good laughs
