Default Experiences with big brake kits

Those that have big brake kits, share your experiences with actual brake performance and looks. I have been considering the GT500 brakes, but the take off kits have been going for too much money in my opinion ($700-800 on eBay). I am also considering a Baer kit which includes calipers, drilled rotors, pads, and SS brake lines for a similar price.

I'm mostly looking for good street performance and something that will fill my wheels out.

Big brakes come with a big price and if your not tracking it why bother? Your looking for street performance, same as I was. I went with EBC dimpled and slotted rotors with EBC red pads. Total cost $540 via amazon.com..........free shipping too.

You can find Brembo kits for a bit less. Just be patient. Under normal driving, there isnt much difference and you might find yourself asking why the hell did you do this mod. I felt this way after I did it too, but I really like the looks and wanted the complete look. I dont track so I wasnt looking for that. Some may frown on my reasoning to get them, but I dont really give a $hit as I didnt ask anyone for the money to get them. I have noticed that in a couple very recent CLOSE calls with someone pulling in front of me, the car came to a very quick halt. Alot quicker than with the stockers I would have to imagine. If you can swing it, its worth getting.

I have the Saleen/Stop Tech 15" rotors and 6 piston calipers on my car. They are overkill for my car which but same reasoning as Mellow...I wanted the look and it's my money. Also like he said under normal driving they feel just like the stock setup but when you mash the brake they stop the car hard as hell. I'm very happy with them and want something to match for the rear now.

I have the Stoptech 14" 4 piston setup. I have the look, and like war said, hard braking is where you will notice the difference.

GT500 brembos here. Love them. Huuuge difference on hard braking.

If you look around, you can find a set for far less than $800. I only paid $600 for mine and they only had around 400 miles on them.

If you have patience you can find take off Brembos cheap. I had a friend who was changing them out on his GT500, and picked them up for $400. With the savings, I was able to pick up some nice DBA rotors, Goodrich brake lines, and Hawk pads. In all it was still cheaper than the Brembo kit new, with better looking components. It made for a completed the look. Just keep looking on all the different Shelby forums, and you will find a good deal from someone who is upgrading theirs.
