Postscript, or why it's handy to be able to drive stick . . .

Night before last, somebody hit my daughter's Honda Pilot and then drove off while she and her hubby were getting a bite to eat. Anyway, the Pilot is out of service for the time being (fan is threatening radiator), and her ability to drive stick is what's going to keep her out of having to deal with a rental for the next few days at least. Being able to drive the "other spare" (see sig) has already saved their anniversary overnight get-away.

I'm not making any of that up.

You never know when you'll need a skill that might otherwise not be entirely necessary. Even if it takes almost 20 years after first learning it.

The 2011's are the easiest to drive of them all. My automatic is a monster for drag racing out of the hole, but It's almost kind of boring. Much less fun on the street too.

I bought my 16 yr old daughter a 5 sp Miata. She had no idea how to drive a 5 sp, but she loved the car. After a few days of painful grinding, popping, and dying in a deserted parking lot, I asked a buddy at work if how long it took to teach his kids. He asked, "boy or girl? Boys take 2 days, girls take 2 weeks". Two weeks after starting, my daughter was shifting like a pro. 1 year later and she has done great! FYI, my '06 GT is an automatic, and I drive her car every chance I get. Get a manual, you will never regret it.
