Interesting read and good find but I have to wonder why? Current mustang engines are:

3.7L 305 HP N/A V6 with 19/31 MPG
5.0L 412 HP N/A V8 with 17/25 MPG
and now
3.5L 365 HP T/C v6 with 17/25 MPG?

Why? more horse power than the 3.7 sure but same MPG as the 5.0. Do they need a transitional car that between 305 HP and 412 HP? seeing as its already turbocharged and direct injected it will likely not yield as much power from mods as the current line of engines. MAYBE the ~200 HP 2.0L but I doubt it.

You're kidding right? That torque line is at peak from 1,500RPM and totally flat across the board. I bet even at 365HP it would be as fast the 412HP 5.0L. As for no power gains from it??...really?? Ford has a gotten 500HP from the Ecoboost V6 with no issues. Also you're using MPG figures from the 4,200lb S.H.O., I'm sure it will be better in a 3,700lb Mustang. The Ecoboost would be a great addition to the Mustang line up!! However I still prefer a V8.

??? I would like to see if a ecoboosted mustang could beat a N/A V8. I hope not that would suck! kinda ruins the whole muscle care theme if you ask me. Also not saying that you could not increase the HP in a factory boosted engine but that its closer to maxing out its potential. You can also get 650+ HP from the 5.0 with no issues

I doubt Ford would allow a turbo motor as their top motor for a Mustang. Saying that, we could make/modify a Ecoboost to beat a V8 and then make the V8 beat the turbo. The usual HP game.

Well Ford already did have a turbocharged motor as the top motor for the Mustang. And it was a 4cyl!! I figure nothing other than 2 doors and RWD are "sacred" so far as pony cars go. That being said, they likely learned their lesson and realize that people aren't going to pay a premium for a forced induction non-V8 motor over the n-a V8 in a pony car even if it were more powerful...

I don't see Ford offering a T/C V6 and a V8, just doesn't make sense to offer both. Not that I'm in favor, but I scan see the V8 eventually being phased out for a smaller, more efficient F/I engine

I agree. I don't see why Ford wouldn't eventually add direct injection and forced induction to the 5.0 since the block and heads are designed to be able to be used in that capacity. I hope they don't because I'm about to buy a new 5 liter, and that change would make me want another one in a couple years. I'm sure that'd be the point, besides possibly helping with 2016 CAFE and emissions standards.
