Cold Brake Pads Creaking and Power Steering Pump Bad
Do cold brake pads cause a creaking noise? When I drive to school in the morning (and its usually pretty cold - and a 3 minute drive to school) my brakes make a creaking sound. Its not the same sound as when my rotors were warped and my pads nearly gone.
I just got new brake pads and rotors few weeks ago - so I know they aren't worn
I do drive quite a bit, so I would expect them to be broken in by now (but I wouldn't know)
Is this a normal thing?
Also - I don't know if I need to replace my power steering fluid, or the pump.
Occasionally (about 50% of the time), my power steering just almost dies - usually while backing up. My steering gets extremely stiff and when I try to force it, it makes this horrible stuttered whine. When I'm moving forward at 20+mph its fine
Thanks guys, I really hate asking all these questions - but the fluid levels and pump conditions in my car deteriorated extremely fast after I bought it. After I get these issues fixed and a small dent taken out of the top, it'll be in pristine condition.

It's not common for brakes to make noises at all. Well not unless you bought some kind of retarded racing pad but then the car would stop when was cold either. Anyway I make sure the all the pad contact surfaces and the slide pins are properly lubed

dude took my 2010 gt in to 3 ford dealerships to have the brake system checked... sounds like mine is scrubbing. was told by all 3 its the kind of brake pads ford uses now I still don't believe it even called the customer call center they "recorded" it what ever that means but you would think if you buy a 30k car from them they could change the brake pads or something to satisfy their customer.
BTW i work for Advance Auto Parts i know about brakes and what they should and should not sound like they shouldn't sound like that so I changed them out for a set of Weaver gold semi metallic pads from aap and fixed the problem

I think I have the same problem as you. I have the stock pads and rotors. The pads have about 20% life, and some idiot at a local shop told me my rear rotors had a "rust ring" building up. I get a weird noise when I am backing out of my driveway. It kind of sounds like the pad is gripping the rotor for a second and then slipping, and then gripping again. Only when I am going slow. Once I hit the brake a few times, usually before I get out of my neighborhood, the noise is gone.
