Looks like a GPS receiver to me. I had an aftermarket unit installed in my '06 and the box they had to put in for it looked just like that and they put it in the same location as yours.

First I thought was GPS, too, but it could be a Sat antenna.

I have a Satellite antennae on my trunk lid that is shaped just like that. I also have a navigation antennae with my Pioneer Z-120BT that is just like that as well...it could be either like ya'll have said.

If you could find out where it runs it would be easier to tell. Do you have an aftermarket head unit?

My satellite radio box is kinda like that, its more oval and goes on my trunk just like HT above me stated.

If you have satellite radio, just hit the "MENU" button a few times, it should cycle to SAT1, SAT2, and SAT3 or something like that.

If not, it might be aftermarket. In that case try the AUX button a few times and see if anything out of the ordinary happens?

Maybe it's an alien receiver, and his car is actually a Transformer. If he hits the AUX button a few times, his car will transform into a robot. Anything is possible...haha.

2006 does not come with satellite radio, so it's an aftermarket install if it is. Is that an icon on the black box? Does it have any font?

That would be so cool though. Anyway, I forgot that 06 isn't equipped with the sat. hmm, then its almost certainly aftermarket like others have said.

If your atall concerned make SURE you do the following!

First, take some Saran wrap and wrap it up to seal in any moisture
Second get some good quality Aluminum foil and wrap it TWICE, once with the Shiney side in and then with the Second sheet, shiney side out.

Very important to get the shiney side out on the last one. You should be good after that.
