Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner works pretty good on cleaning under the hood also
Makes the chrome sparkle and IMO works better than Simple Green.

Oops. I've always been leary to spray and hose down the engine bay so I hand clean it. Really could use the deep cleaning though.

Did it ruin your filter or did you just need a new one?

About every 6 weeks I wash my engine compartment.... Keep water to a minimum... barely a sprinkle from the hose.... use a very soft brush and just minimal soapy water and go over the outside of the engine compartment... Then just the slightest sprinkle to rinse... Keep contact with the engine itself just to damp and not wet... Fire it up and let it dry itself...

Brush like this one works well:

Show quality? Not really. Greasy and grimy after 65k miles? Nope. Don't get your hands dirty at all when working on it...
