Question Exhaust drone - can it be fixed?

So, I've had this 2011 GT about a week, and a previous owner installed a Magnaflow catback on it. It's a gorgeous system, but the noise at about 60 is such that the wife won't ride in it.

I'm thinking I've got two options - either add mufflers / resonators / old socks stuffed up the tail pipes, or trade somebody out for the stock system if they're willing to provide the changeover labor and maybe a couple cases of some icy cold beverage or something.

Stainless resonators are like a hundred bucks each or more, so I'd be in at least $300 with labor to get them welded in... seems like a lot of money for a fix.

Has anyone successfully fixed a drone with some magic trickery?

you could always regear your rear end for more fun and to change the rpm at which the drone kicks in.

I think you got it; a different axleback. I've also heard that drone can be eliminated by changing the location (staggering) of one of the two mufflers but I don't know if inches is enough or feet.

So instead of droning at 60.. it'll drone at 70...

Gears are fun, but it doesn't solve the problem. I would change the exhaust setup.

I'm not seeing the problem here! :-)

Swapping out axlebacks is simple on the previous models. I am sure its just as simple with an 2011. You dont even need to jack the car up. Put an ad on craigslist for some stock mufflers and sell yours. In my experience mufflers are the cause of drone.

I feel your pain. I am sick of my low RPM drone.

easy.......do you have a manual or auto ? as for me I simply stay away from 2000 rpm's for any period. Sure if I wanted to 'putt' along at 2k it's there so I stay away !

I know its not necessarily the answer u are looking for but I just want to add that if you're looking for axle backs that sound nice, but that have zero drone... the Corsa's work EXACTLY as advertised... get on it and its loud as hell.. tame and it sounds great... and of course, ZERO drone.
