Default Shaker 500

So, my car (2010 GT) has the shaker 500 sound system in it and the mids and highs suck. Does anyone know if replacing the 5 x 7's in the doors would make much of a difference? Or is it in the head unit. My 02 with the mach 460 I ended up replacing the entire sound system because of the same thing.

Thanks

in my 06 mustang I switched out the headunit and the speakers and it made a huge difference..I didn't even have a separate amp for the speakers..

Changing out the head unit would be a real serious industrial type project, since it's tied in with the computer in so many ways. It would probably be better to start by changing the speakers and see what that does for you. That's kinda my plan....

I replaced my Shaker 1000 with the Shelby Kicker upgrade (new amp and all new speakers; same head unit). It was a big improvement. The sub-woofer is half the size and 60% of the weight of the Shaker 1000 unit but with twice the output. The stock door speakers didn't even have tweeters in them, thus the muddy mid to high end.

I can only imagine what the jump from a Shaker 500 to a Shelby Kicker would be like.

I changed out my head units in both my GT and Snake with FH-P8000BT Pioneer units...really woke up the stock speakers!! I cant even begin to explain how much better!

Change the headunit and you'll see a huge difference! I went with a Kenwood DNX6160 and I have loved every minute of it.

I just put JL audio speakers in the doors and the rear shelf (left the Shaker 500 headunit and door-subs) and am VERY impressed. Took time to put adhesive foam tape between all the plastic pieces in the door panels to eliminate the buzzes and rattles...

Thanks for the advice. I'd really prefer to leave the head unit alone since it's got the satellite radio and all that. I'll have to look into the Shelby Kicker system.

Yes, new front speakers help a lot. I replaced my fronts with Pioneers and the mids/highs are much better now.

The Shaker is really lacking in the sound customizing features of the aftermaket heads...IMO ANY attempt to improve the system has to start with a new head unit...
