Default Tci Rachet shifter install help

Under the car am trying to unhook the connector off the stock shifter arm. I slid the locking clip up but it won't come off. Used a long screwdriver and put a good amount of force behind it and it won't release. How hard do you have to pry to get it off? I can't even slide the slider part back down to give up. Very frustrated right now, anybody got any tips? I have read every install thread I could find via a google search. Everyone says to just pry off, but doesn't say how hard to pry. They do say be careful as it can break. Would rather not do that.

It takes a good amount of force especially if it's really dirty. Try spraying some WD40 on the plastic piece and prying on it again. When I took it off the first time I thought I was going to break it, but every time after it has come off rather easy.

Be careful with the bolts that hold it down. I was helping a buddy install one in his car a few weeks after I had installed mine, and I went to go grab a drink and by the time I had gotten back he had already snapped one of them.

I was cool with the bolts. They were really only on snugged from the factory. Put them back on just the same.

Got it all in there. Lights up, goes into park, reverse, neutral, and D. All seem to be very normal. Drove it around the block and all seems fine. Went to rachet it back to first and it only rachets back to 3rd gear. It will not go lower.

Did I mess up the linkage connection? Seems weird all the gears work cept first and second. Any ideas?

Ran into the same thing on my install...no biggie. There is an adjustment on the linkage that needs to be made. The black piece of plastic under the car with the teeth on it makes small adjustments in the travel of the shifter.
I took mine to a bud at the dealership for this adjustment and since then everything has been ok. Hope this helps.

Excellent, thanks for the input. Fricken install took me all afternoon yesterday. I could not get that clip off the shifter. Was afraid I was gonna break it.

If I remember right, the adjustment need's to bring the arm from the transmission further back. The shifter is working, but it cannot create enough travel to actually draw the transmission into 2nd. Once he got 2nd to go, 1st was no problem. To be honest with you I very rarely use the damn thing except to downshift to 3rd entering a turn and pop it back into D on exit. I learned quick that the good old computer is a better shifter than me at wot, I kept hitting the limiter when I tried to manually shift...lol.
Good luck with her bro!
