Default 2011 5.0 6speed with 3.31?

Ok so i have been itching to trade mine in on a 2011 or 2012 5.0 premium..I have had my car for a year and I really like it and all..but kinda itching for that 5.0 and also the better gauge cluster and leather interior..So there is one locally a 2011 black with saddle interior 6speed..but it has 3.31 gears my 2010 has 3.73 and I really wanted one with the 3.73 would it make a big difference. Should I hold out on one with 3.73's the only thing is they are offering lower interest rate and dropped the price a few grand cause its a 2011 to move it.

If its that good of a deal I would just get it and you could get your gears down the road but the difference is noticeable between 331 and 373.

I noticed a nice improvement going from 331s to 373s. If you can swing the 5.0 I say go for it!

Since you're probably getting a bigger discount than the ~$500 gear swap that you might have to do in the future...it just makes sense to go for it economically.

If its a good deal, I say go with it cause you can always add gears after the fact....and get 4.10s

never hurts to look. You could always find a good deal. I wasnt really in the market but was looking. Found a deal I couldnt pass up. Got my 08 mustang over a year ago with only 7800 miles and for 1k under wholesale.

Don't compare just the axle gears. The tranny gear ratios are quite different, and the MT-82 does not need the same axle gears as the TR3650 to get the same results even if the cars were identically powered.

To "match" your TR3650 and 3.73's through the first five gears, the MT-82 doesn't need an axle ratio any deeper than about 3.00:1, so a 3.31 is already a performance axle - more on par with 4.10's and your TR3650 actually. 4.10's with the MT-82 would be like 4.56's in a 2010 or earlier car, which is just plain silly for a street-driven V8 car.

Here are the individual tranny gear ratios for both, and I've added the overall ratio with your 3.73's with the TR3650 and 3.31's with the MT-82. Except for 1st (which is going to be traction limited anyway), the overall gearing in the new car right the way it sits is better than what you've got right now.

TR3650
1st - 3.38 ==> 12.61
2nd - 2.00 ==> 7.46
3rd - 1.32 ==> 4.92
4th - 1.00 ==> 3.73
5th - 0.68 ==> 2.54

MT-82
1st - 3.66 ==> 12.11
2nd - 2.43 ==> 8.04
3rd - 1.69 ==> 5.59
4th - 1.32 ==> 4.37
5th - 1.00 ==> 3.31
6th - 0.65 ==> 2.15
