Default tuner question

ordering my tuner and jlt intake combo this weekend and i was wondering...people always say that the tune "wakes" their car up, especially autos...im just wondering, would the tune wake up my exhaust tone as well?...lately i've been feeling like it's not as loud as it used to be when i first installed it

can anyone chime in as to what else it could be if the tune wouldn't do n e thing

I recently had this problem with my car not being as loud is it used to be.
It could just need an oil change, or you're engine might be too rich in oil.
^^ In which case drive the car hard (in high rpm's for about 10 minutes) in order to blow it out.
If supercharged, clean the oil separator. Sometimes it will turn black and screw up the air intake in the supercharger.
Clean the CAI.
Refill with 93 octane. In the winter gasoline is deluded with alcohol so you're not exactly getting what you pay for when you fill your tank.
A tune isn't going to change anything, at least that's what happened when I got mine tuned again.

  1. You're getting used to the sound of your exhaust
  2. Your cats are clogged from using cheap or leaded fuel
  3. Your getting hardening of the arteries and are losing your hearing

Some folk claim that their tune improved the exhaust note. I didn't notice that on my GT. Certainly changed the amount of wood going 3/4-WOT!

After I installed my custom tune, I did notice the exhaust had a deeper tone and was a little bit louder.

As I always recommend, even though you're tanked up with 93 octane, take a very spirited drive immediately PRIOR to the CAI & tune install, then load your lowest octane tune first and take that same spirited ride, then load the next higher tune and so forth. You may be surprised to find that one of the lower octane tunes suits your driving style and conditions. Each tune can have its own characteristics.

You're just getting used to the tone Shad.

I did notice a slight difference in exhaust note too, but I think at one point we just become accustomed to how load our cars are.

There is a huge difference between the 87 custom tune and 87 stock. If you choose to try out all 3 custom tunes, you will notice that each tune will pull harder in certain RPM ranges. You may prefer a particular tune over another due to your style of driving. As Nuke stated above, try them all and see which one suits you best! Enjoy!

yep...for me the 87 performance was a change from stock but when I loaded the 91 race...it was like I had to learn how to drive stick all over again.
