Default Electrical Problem

Hey all. First time poster and I have a problem with my 06 Mustang. It was running great today when I went to the store and when I came back to my car the power locks were not working. I figured it was something to do with the alarm, but when I started my car every dummy light was on and nothing power worked. No AC, windows, lights, fuel gauge, stereo, nothing. She still runs fine, but I have no idea why I'm having this electrical problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

Feel behind the carpet on the passenger's side kick plate to see if it is moist. It could be that you have the dreaded leak that so many Mustangs (especially the earlier models) have been experiencing. It can cause all sorts of electrical havoc.
Do a search on this forum for "Leaks" and you will see a lot. Some with answers and suggestions on what to look for and how to fix it.
Good Luck and welcome to the forums.

It could be the water leak (see the TSB in the forum stickies related to this) which causes corrosion of the SJB (Smart Junction Box) behind the passenger kick panel or you have a charging system problem (the alternator and battery are weak links and issues with either have been known to cause electrical gremlins). But from your description I'm thinking (unfortunately) that it's water leak related. Has the car been in the rain recently?

It's been raining up here for the last week or so. The strangest thing is that I brought the car home was posting on the forum and looking up the problem and when I went back to my 'stang, I could not duplicate the issue. Everything was working fine. This weekend, I'm going to check out for water leaks. Thanks for the advise everyone. Could it have been a loose ground?

Loose grounds drove me nuts when my accessory delay feeds fuse kept blowing and blowing and blowing after I redid my head unit. I ended up having to pull it and rewire the whole thing

How old is the battery? Is it original to the car? I've read (but never experienced) a few posts where the weak or dying battery caused problems with the dummy lights and throwing codes. Have it load tested at a Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts if they are near you.

I hope for your sake it is not a water leak problem. Keep us updated.

I am betting the drain grommet is plugged and the thing overflowed in through the cabin filter...

Hi willpass64,

I'm glad your Mustang is running fine despite it's electrical glitch! You may want to have the dealer take a look at it. Intermittent electrical issues can be difficult to diagnose, and the dealer is in the best position to help. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist.
