Are you quoting ADVERTISED prices or negotiated prices? Unless the car is being given away, the advertised price had better be what it takes to get you to even SNIFF at it. I bought my g/f her loaded, 9k miles, garage kept '06 V6 Pony Package in 2009, advertised at $15.7k for $13.5k. And I doubt I could sell my '07 GT for any more than $17k today...

Sounds like you really might need to buy one out of state.
The prices they want are terrible.
In Dec '09 asking price for my car was 11.9k I paid 10k and the car was perfect with 48k miles.

Supply and demand. There has been a lot of talk recently about used car prices going up because of a shortage of good used cars. A couple of reasons are the average age of a car on the road now is 10 years old; three years ago it was 8 years old.
Also, since the events in Japan there are not as many new cars from those manufacturers in the marketplace as in years past and will take them a while to get back on track with the models that are produced there. So that does put a premium on all good used cars.
I agree with Tanner05, you might need to go out of state to find a deal that suits you.
Keep looking you'll find it!

When I was looking for the Stang for my g/f in early 2009, I began looking in the Lake Zurich area (NW Chicago burbs) where she was living at that time. There were a few nice used Stangs in the Naperville area that were below $15k - $16k. If what you're seeing is accurate and applicable to the rest of the country, maybe I can get more for MY '07! WOOT WOOT!!!

VBstang nailed it.
Resale values at are an all time high right now because dealers are having a hard time getting inventory both new and used. Simple supply and demand economics at work here. Used car values are inflated right now. Especially compared to 2008 & 2009 when dealers were dumping cars for low values. So this just creates a bigger perception on high prices. Gas prices, raw materials shortages from the Japan Tsunami are contributing factors. Although this type of situation we are seeing is rare, it is consistent with what you will see from dealers and bluebook sources like KBB, NADA, etc.
This is no BS guys. It's really happening. Things may settle down within the next few months while supply is expected to recover for Q3. If you own a used car and plan on trading in, now is a good time. If you are looking to buy a used car, you may want to hold off for a bit until the market cools off.

Thank you all so much for the information....I have been checking craigslist, but none are really the one I am looking for, at least in the chicago area...I might have to go alittle further with the search and locate one for a nice price from a private seller and ship it...
But what worries me going through a private seller , I get the vin#, but there is no way checking everything is fully OK with the car past to present.
