if you have worn bushings or tie rod ends an alignment wont fix them. The ONLY way to knock the toe out of alignment is to hit something and bent or break a steering component.

Update on road trip
I made it to my destination of Minneapolis to visit family. The strangest thing with the wheel shaking is sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not. I can only really tell if I let go of the steering wheel. And sometimes when accelerating I'll notice it also. It's been my pet peeve to whole trip up here to every so often let go of the steering wheel for a couple of seconds to see if it shakes. On a flat road I let go of the wheel for about 30 seconds, no drifting at all, so I guess the alignment is fine. When I get back I'll have the wheels rebalanced and see if that helps.
