Highway design was ages ago back in school (I went into structural).

But real-world experience with pavement and tire noise came only last weekend on a trip up to eastern MA. The RE050A summer tires on her Subaru LGT are normally fairly quiet, but they put up such a roar over those kinds of stretches that I could hardly wait to get back on even the old asphalt that the machine hadn't gotten to yet. I think most of the hearing I had has come back . . .

Perhaps you need a 4 wheel balance and maybe tire rotation?

If you want a smooth riding, super quiet tire, get what I have. Goodyear Assurance Comfortreds. It's the best for those purposes. I also painted on a product at quietcar.net under the wheel wells, under the back seat, behind the back seat side covers and trunk. At least 2 coats helped quite a bit combined with the tires.

Cams, longtubes, no cats and a blower will solve that pesky tire noise issue! Lol

the stock Pirelli's don't seem so loud.
Are you sure it's not the rear gears whining?

the stocks were loud too, so I bought Nitto 555s and the noise is still there, make me wonder if it is the gears, oh well, guess its a good excuse to go to 4.10s. PS I will die before owning a damn pries.

Sounds like you need an exhaust. Between blasting country music and the exhaust, I don't think I'll ever be able to notice tire noise...
