Jeesh, that sounds more serious than Kalifornia.

Bummer.

Can't the tuner just write the O2's out of the system to show the system as good to go? Here in Texas they just hook up the scanner to the ODB port. I've never seen them do a visual.

Old thread... Its amazing to me the amount of hassle people are willing to bring upon themselves for a few HP, lol. I've lived all over this country (CT, IL, NY, AZ, UT, WA, CO, TX) so as you might imagine, I've encountered all levels of emissions law. I've always run cats 100% of the time. For one, I just don't believe in polluting the planet, or having myself or someone's mother behind me breathe in that crap, all for a minimal gain in the grand scheme of things. In cases where I've had more modified cars with hi-flow cats, I've never had a problem getting a tuner to write me an "emissions tune" that is simply much more conservative, but has all the sensors turned on and passed the OBDII check no problem. I of course never failed visual, because I never do these hack n slash exhaust setups. They always looked legit, because they were legit having the cats in place, etc.

I was simply hoping to save the dough since I'm going to college, but I guess I can drop the money on some cats in two years when the time comes. I'm not for "polluting the planet" or "squeezing 1 or 2 hp out," but it ain't cheap. You've gotta pay to play but I like trying to take it in strides.

Fun fact:

EPA is currently investigating cat's because they are bad for the environment.

My car makes CO - bad for people
Your car makes CO2 - Bad for the environment

Your car also makes traces of NO(ZZZZ lol) - 300 times worse for the environment than CO2.

Also lets not forget the process to mine the platinum that is in the cats, and the cost associated with it as well.

I also don't think the 500-1000 miles I drive a year catless doe's any damage. But I can understand you sticking with cats moving from place to place
