Brenspeed Detroit Rockers and Idle RPM?
Hi,
I have had my Detroit Rockers in for the summer now with a Bama tune for it. The Idle RPM from Bama was set too 775. It was too high and there was no lope at that RPM. I dropped it down to 725 and I still wasn't happy with the sound. I ended up going with 675 and it still drives good and no stalling issues and sounds great! I am having a bog issue though when taking off (WOT). The car bogs down a bit and then wakes up near the end of the first gear and screams in 2nd. Bama at first screwed up on the tune and forgot to include the FRPP intake manifold in the program, but that did not help. I then thought I would give Brenspeed a try and see how their tune is for their Cams. Their default Idle RPM on their tune is 850. Way too high for my liking. I dropped it down to 800, then 750 and even at 750 it didn't sound good. Also with running it at 750 the car seemed to drive like crap. I went out with the wife for a drive and wass out only 15-20 minutes and decided to go home, cause it just did not sound right. Coming to a complete stop the car almost died. The RPM's dropped below 500 for a bit and then jumped up around 1000. It did this everytime I stopped. The wife said the car sound like crap also. Engine/Tranny seemed to be fighting each other.
I haven't been able to contact Brenspeed about the problem because of the holidays, but I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas and what is a good Idle RPM to use. I wat the lopy sound that these cams should be giving and don't want it sounding like a stock cams, after spending all the money on these these!

If u want the lopey lopey cams then u lose the ability to dd your car. If your looking for that old school lope that my dad had in his GTO back in the day. You will not get it with these cams or the hot rods. I have flowmasters with my DR cams and it sounds good. Atleast I like it. U wont be able to set your idle that low without effecting driveability. Let us know what u find out

First off, my car was an Automatic.
I actually had great success by ordering a bama tune for my detroit rockers. I then dropped my rpm down to the 575. Sounded best down there.
With the Brenspeed tune (my first tune), I had to keep it at 750rpm (which was the default). Every time I loaded a tune I had to do 15 mins of idle learning and it still stalled on me a few time when leaving a parking spot. The BAMA tune required zero idle learning and never stalled on me. I also had a lot of surging when idling at a light. I called Brenspeed about it and they told me to clean my TB and get a catch can. TB was already clean, but I did order the Catch Can. It didn't help. That's when I decided to spend the $150 on tunes for life from BAMA. Freaking 1 month later I sold the car.
The only drivability problem I had was loss of low end torque.
Here's what 750rpm sounded like. Brenspeed tune.

I'd agree. But if you want to feel that shake and hear a strong lope, you've got to loose some drivability. An auto would just need a higher stall converter to prevent from lugging and stalling all the time. A new rear end is necessary with any cams (in my strong opinion).
