Default Which tires to go on these rims?

http://www.buyfordracing.com/product...-SET-OF-4.html

Hey guys,

I will be purchasing those wheels for my 2011 5.0 brembo. What tires should I go with (size wise) as a winter setup? These wheels are 18x9.5 if im not mistaken, so should 240/45/18 be sufficient as a winter tire? What other suggestions do you guys have?

I don't think I would go that small. Probably 255s IMO.

Isn't that too much for winter tire? 255/45 or 255/40?

I know nothing about tires

Well it is infact a bit wide for what I would use as winter only, but I would not go with a tire that is skinnier then the rim for any application. 240s would work if you had a 9" rim, but yours is a bit thicker.

Are these RIMS for winter only, or will you be using them year round? If they are only for winter, I would say get skinnier rims.

And I am not a tire expert by any means. I just know what I have picked up from the forums and what I gained from my own personal experience with winter and driving and tire selection. Honestly, I don't think you will notice much difference between 240s and 255s, but I could be wrong. I got through most of last winter (Ohio winters) on bald stock pirellis with no weight in the trunk. I skidded everywhere and it was very dangerous, but I am still here (barely).

If you bought those wheels for winter, what wheels are you using for summer? If your current wheels are less than 9.5", then I'd use THOSE for winter with narrower tires and put some nice meat on those 9.5's. You can put 285's out back and 255's up front, just like the big boys do.

I have 255/45's (Goodyear Asymmetrics) all around on my 2008 GT500 wheels. The sidewalls stick out only a little past the wheel flanges, so you maybe have to be a little careful around curbs and such. But there's a little less understeer than if you stagger the sizes with something like 285/40's out back, and if you're not running forced induction or a nitrous setup you probably don't need the extra rear tire width for most performance reasons. Appearance is a separate matter that's your call (I've made mine).

Run your current tires and wheels if they're narrower. I've lost touch with what Ford fits to the newer cars (never mind whether you've changed those already), so you might want to list what's on the car now.

If your current tires and wheels are wider than 255/xx and 9.5", you probably need to re-think this.

My Nitto's work well. 255/45 and 285/40...but not for winter.

I have the brembo wheels which are 9" and wrapped in 255/40/19. I like those wheels and I wanted the Gt500's solely as the winter setup.

Then perhaps you should go with 265s during summer and find some skinnier wheels for winter, perhaps 18x8.5? And then go with 235s.
