Default Kooks LT headers and exhaust smell

I installed FRPP Hot Rod cams about six months ago and this weekend got some Kooks LT headers with catted H-pipe. Since the header replacement there is a very potent smell of gas in the exhaust like it's running too rich. Currently I am running the 87 Bama tune. The tune is new and includes the headers and H-pipe. Is the smell normal or should I contact Bama and get another tune? Thanks...

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me! Most exhaust leaks I have smelt, smell like gas!

That's what I was thinking too but I don't smell it until I get behind the car.

Get that 13mm flex head wrench in there and tighten those header bolts. Make sure collectors and new h pipe are sealing up good too. My collector bolts loosen up and I retighten them every few months. With LTs those cams are gonna breath better too but smelling gas, thats not right.

This^^

You definitely have a leak somewhere, either at the manifolds/block or the headers/midpipe.

Headers on these motors can be a real PITA and will need re-torquing every once and awhile.

If you are worried about whether or not it is the tune, give our Tuning Specialists a call and datalog the current tune with them to best determine the calibration's accuracy.

Good luck!

Please let me know if I may be of assistance in the future!
