Default Yep broke two off

I wanted to change the plugs on my 05 GT now that is has 65k on it. Thankfully I took it to a friend who is a Ford tech at a local dealership. He has the correct extraction tool if we had a plug break off in the head. Sure enough number 2 and number 6 broke. What a pain but thankfully it is common place for him and no big deal with the right tools and know how. It might be just mental but the new plugs seem help in cold start situations but other than that no difference. It still amazes me how a plug can go 65k and still look good and be efficient. Thanks Kevin for the help. You are a life saver.

Peace of mind having your buddy help you. The rest of us are hoping we dont have to buy that tool. I used a torque wrench to take mine out. They didnt budge till I set it to 55 ft lbs. Fortunately none broke.

it takes more torque to get your spark plugs out than your car puts down :P

What is the proper name of the broken plug extractor tool?
Did a search on the net and could not find anything. I am thinking I should use the correct name of the extractor tool

Here ya go! Lisle (LIS65600) Broken Spark Plug Remover for Ford Triton 3 Valve Engines. Waiting on mine to get here tomorrow so I can get my 5 broken plugs out. (Wow, only 5 tools left! I ordered mine Fri night and it was #11).
http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-LIS65600...3634249&sr=8-1

And here's a good read on what it does and how and a nice how to video. http://www.denlorstools.com/autoblog...ds-bad-design/
Oh yeah and if you buy one, be sure to lubricate the bolt that threads into the electrode to keep it from becoming stripped and dull.

To OP, man that's awesome that you only had two and your friend was on hand. You change to the one piece or stay with OEM?

Congrats on having a guy there to help you get the broken ones out. I am glad I swapped mine out to one piece at 20k miles with none breaking.

Sure did not at first posting of this thread, but yeah, youre right thankfully.
I just read the owners manual for the spark plug specs and thank gawd they are not the old two piece design.

In searching for the broken spark plug removers, I stumbled across this vid on how they work.
Really cool how they extract the lower end that remains:

He had the Lisle tool and the Ford factory tool also. The Lisle seemed to work better. Funny thing is a friend of mine called today saying he had 2 break on his 06gt. The same 2 I had break. Number 2 and number 7. That was just weird. The Lisle tool works great but it is very un-nerving when you have to try and catch a good grip on the broken part with the removal tool. I went back with the factory plug not the one piece. Trust me if I keep the car much longer it will not be 65k again before I replace the plugs.
