Default O/R H Pipe question...

Does an O/R H sound better with two chambered mufflers or single chambered. I have FM40s with mine and I like the old muscle car kind of rattly sound, and I like how deep it is. But at the same time I feel like single chambers would sound better. Any input?

It all depends on the mods involved. Your FM40s are much louder than my AT flows but since I have cams and longtubes I have to have a quieter muffler or the drone and trumpeting would be insane. And in my case I had to add two sets of resonators to control that trumpeting.

If your happy with your tone even if it isnt exactly perfect I would say dont change anything. If you plan on longtubes and or cams you will be changing out those 40s. Drone and trumpeting will be overbearing.

Yeah, they are basically glasspack mufflers. I had so much trumpeting after the LT and cam installs that I had to do something. Cutting in the m80s cured it. After I added the blower I had to loose the HF cats(they would have melted from the heat), so I cut in some cherry bomb glasspack mufflers in their place(only muffler I could find that would fit). The resonators dont lower the volume at all, what they do is deepen the tone and control the exhaust gas flow to stop the trumpeting effect.

How do you think the drone and trumpeting would be if you ran the 40's with cams and LT's, but used a catted H-pipe? I'm thinking, or kinda hoping, the cats would basically be my resonator, and tame it down enough.

I had HF cats and they didnt do squat to stop the trumpeting. For me adding the m80s got rid of the trumpets. Drone is controlled by the style of muffler and a flowmaster 40 will produce drone.
When you add cams and longtubes your engine is breathing big time now, its gonna be loud unless you restrain it back. Which is why you see lots of guys putting the stock mufflers back on after they add cams and LTs.

I almost got a couple chambered magnaflows but it sounded almost stock to me... so I went with 3" magnapack (straight through). 2.5" O/R H pipe and stock mani's

Jas your car sounds very nice but if you had cams and longtubes, no way would you have magnapacks on there. You would want those chambered magnaflows.

Thanks for all the help you guys. I think I'm just gonna stick with what I have now for now. I'm really starting to like the X-pipe sound too. So many decisions!!
