So far we have been fortunate. She was only 4 months with her first surgery. They repaired the lip and nose at that surgery. Since that surgery, people haven't been able to realize she ever had a cleft lip. However, before that surgery, when I would take her out, people would stare. So me being a Marine and protective dad, I always had to open my mouth and say something. But she's doing great now. And as you saw from the picture, she looks amazing!!!
As somebody who was also born with a cleft palate and lip, I feel for your daughter - she's got a long road ahead of her. I was fortunate - mine was repaired over three surgeries, but I remember the many years of humiliation and frustration. Society does not treat people with funny faces well.
I hope she wins.
