Not your typical shorty header question
Hey, well I've searched through the many forums and other info sources on the web to try and find the answer to a question I have concerning shorty headers. Yes, I've read that shorties "are not worth it," "add little, if any, horsepower at all," "don't flow much better than our stock manifolds," "are a waste, go with long tubes instead," and all the other endless, repetitive statements. My question isn't if shorties are worth it, so please refrain from answering in such form. My question is, from the standpoint of the 4.0 V6, how much sound improvement do you get out of shorties? Is it a lot and is it noticeable? I'm currently running with stock manifolds, stock cats, custom h-pipe, and Flowmaster American Thunder and I absolutely love it, although I wouldn't mind if the sound can still be improved a bit. Also, would shorties help eliminate some or most of the popping noises our sixxers make? I live in California, so my only choice would be the JBA Cat4ward shorty headers. I'm not gonna get them any time soon, but if the sound improvement can be justified by spending $300+ then this is a mod I will seriously consider as soon as possible.

Yeah, the CAI makes a notable change in the exhaust note. When I installed my CAI, my exhaust got slightly louder and deeper, enough to be noticed right away. And it also helped eliminate most of the pop. If some shorties improve it even more, those $300+ should be worth it.
