Ram Air for s197's who can explain to me how to make it work?

If you want ram-air get a cai like the one offered by WMS. http://www.wmsracing.com/wmsweb/WMS-...ntake_Ram.html
And a KR hood or similar, with an opening close to the front. Thats how I would do it.
If you get the C&L then that hood is a good choice, per what jimc mentioned.

It sounds like you have the stock intake - don't cut it to make this dump air in. You will have unfiltered air going in to your engine because the stock set up draws air from the bottom.
None of the options out there are true "ram air".
Get a CAI and open filter like a C&L. This hood is designed with that in mind so that any air coming into the scoop opening is directed to the open element.

Shaker system is but only slighty boosts performance, if any. The real benefit is being able to intake air from completely outside the car.
@OP - Sorry to tell ya but you probably won't see much of a performance boost. These hoods will work better with a CAI than with the stock airbox as well. The benefit you get it being able to get air that hasn't been heated by the engine bay pretty much at all.

The s197 can only ingest so much air at a time and ram air won't help. Maybe bored and stroked...
Besides looking good, the hood may help reduce heat soak slightly.

OP - Can I ask how much prep work time (and dollars, since it seems you had it painted professionally) were involved in having the hood painted? I understand they do not come from Trufiber in ready-to-paint condition and may require a bit more than scuff sanding and primer.
Also...where's the pics of the new hood? What did you end up doing about the airbox?

painter said it was one of the nicest fiberglass hoods he has ever seen very little prep its still at the shop. They are charging me 750 to paint both the hood and my new Roush front bumper as far as the airbox goes I plan on getting a CAI with a good heat sheild to block out as much heat from the engine bay as possible and allow the cold air from the ram air hood to blow on top of it.
