Only time I've ever changed the timing chain is when it broke and I never had any problems with engine malfunctions after replacement. That was on a 302 though.

I've had numerous cars with timing BELTS that I had to replace at 60k or 90k miles. Considering I often put over 200k miles on each one it was no big deal. But I've never had to replace a timing CHAIN on any of the chain-driven cars that I've owned.
The 4.0 is the old pushrod style engine, and the chain is very short. Chain stretch in this type is very minimal, and nothing to lose sleep over. Same style that has been used in millions of decades.
Well this is false! The 4.0 cologne engine is SOHC not a pushrod engine.
