Default Best short throw shifter for mt-82?

Ive missed 2nd gear a few times, and just recently burned my clutch a bit because i missed 2nd then hit 4th thinking it was 2nd and let the clutch out for a sec at like 5k rpm in 4th gear at 10 mph and it didnt catch. Total buzz kill missing a shift, and well, not good for my clutch..

The shift i do from 2-3 is quite a bit slower compared to my 1-2 or 3-4.

Whats the best short throw shifter out there for this transmission?

Anyone have experience with MGW, Steeda, Barton or any others?

MGW looks nice, but its expensive.

you're missing shifts and you think a shorter throw is going to alleviate/resolve that? : P

I was hopeing so, yes. With the stock i seem to hit between 2nd and 4th when i miss, was hoping a STS may just make it easier and faster to find the gears

...and you're sure it's not the skip shift right?

Anyway, as alan mentioned, MGW is getting a lot of great reviews. I've been thinking about it myself. I'll either go with MGW or Barton depending on my funds...which are always low.

Good luck!

if youre hitting the gate between 2nd and 4th it's because you're not pulling straight down, or you're allowing the shifter to try to recenter itself as you pull down with a loose grip.

I don't think a shifter is going to solve your problem. +1 to are you sure it isn't skip shift? under slower driving conditions, it will try to lock you out and force you from 1st to 4th - it can feel like you're hitting the gate if you're still trying to manhandle it into 2nd.

Mabe it was the skip shift this last time..

Heres what i did the last time : I tried to launch on the street and got no traction so i was going to do a massive burnout, hit near redline in 1st at about 10-15 mph, then went to shift to 2nd and it didnt go in then i hit 4th while going back to full throttle and it didnt catch and burned my clutch a bit (clutch seems fine now though)

Heres the skip shift parameters :

The vehicle speed is between 24-31 km/h (15-19 mph).
The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is greater than 77°C (171°F).
The barometric pressure (BARO) is greater than 76 kPa.
The accelerator pedal position (APP) is less than 26 percent.
When the conditions are met the PCM grounds the skip shift solenoid control circuit. This energizes the skip shift solenoid and mechanically blocks the gear shift lever from going into the second or third gear positions. When the driver pulls back on the shift lever with the system enabled, the transmission will go into fourth gear.

It doesnt say anything about RPM's, only accellerator position, i was off the throttle for like a 1/4 second when trying to get into 2nd i suppose, and i may have meeting all the parameters.

Mabe i just need a tuner to disable skip shift? Seems like skip shift almost made me *** up my clutch and flywheel. Is there any way to easily and safely disable skip shift? I have been able to get it into 2nd at times when meeting all the parameters too though, its confusing and wierd..

I have missed 2nd at like 35-40 mph too a couple times too though.

Unplug the solenoid .. you don't need a tune to disable it.

I hate to sound like a jerk but it seems like you need more practice shifting rather then looking for some sort of aftermarket item to solve the problem for you.

I put over 30k miles on my 2003 5 speed mustang and have 2k miles on this 2011, only had it for a month and a half though. Ive nailed shifts many times, much more often than not i nail it but i *** up every once in a while like everyone who has some ***** and tries some crazy **** does and i think a STS may help that happen less. You dont think a STS would help at all? Why do people buy short throw shifters then?

Does this turn on any warning lights on the dash or anything?
