Default 2005 V6 Problem Electrical?

I have my friends 2005 Mustang in my pole barn for storage. He put it away with the headlights, windows brakelights etc. not working. He took it to a dealer last fall and they think it needs a new Smart junction box. Plus they wanted over 600 buck to replace this and he did not have the money. First where is this located? Is this plug and play or does it have to be programed at a dealer. Also want is the part # for this? Where is the best place to get one? He is picking this up in 2 weeks so I want to make sure everything works for him. Thanks for your Help.

Smart junction box is located on the passenger's right side kick panel, just below the dash. Send 157db (a member here) a PM. He is very good with the electrical stuff in our cars and can help you.

I just called the dealer. They said the part # is 5R3Z15604DC and is $333.08. Also they said it needs the be programed which is 200 bucks. Does this sound correct?

Pricey but sounds in the ballpark.

Tell your friend that he needs to check the TSB for the chronic water leak which tends to fry SJB's. If he has the leak (and I'll bet real money he does), it'll simply happen again.

Being a 2005 Mustang will a dealer still cover a TSB under warranty? Is there a fix for the leak. He only has 38000 miles on it. Thanks again for your help.

IMO, 9 out of 10 Ford dealers won't honor the TSB post-warranty.

Now that the car has been sitting, once the battery is charged, start it up and see. With it drying out, it may work ok now. But then water will get into it again if that's the case, even if replaced with a new one.

Post up the exact issues, all of them, and we can help out.

+1000 to what nuke said. He is going to end up paying much more in the future if the SJB failure is because of the water leak.

To find out, run a hose over the passenger side of the car's hood so some goes down the black "cowl" below the wipers. Check the floorboards for dampness. And then if there is, you have the water leak TSB- very common in the 05s. Look it up here and find the fix some people have posted on fixing it (involves cleaning a rubber grommet, and underlying area if I remember correctly?).

Could be a battery issue, however I have never heard of that affecting the brake lights and power windows as well. I assumed that if those parts were being affected then the car would have stopped starting altogether long before.

I called the dealer for my friend. There is 5 pages of TSB's for leaking on his car. This happened also after a hard rain I just found out so I think you guys are right. I'm going to have the dealer fix it for him that way they also can find the leak. Thanks again for your Help.
