I've been toying with the idea of trying this myself. However I have a Shaker1000 system with the phone icon not the mute icon on my 2008 GT. I've not seen or heard of any success with the Shaker1000 head units, anyone have success with one..

The status checker I know about is the one on sync my ride site that I run after a software upgrade and it only shows that I have the latest version of the sync software. There are a number files on the USB drive that is used during the check process.
Do you mean voice commands? The voice commands did not work when the out of box components were first installed. To get the voice commands to work the dealer connected a PC to the cars USB port and the service port and downloaded some software from a Ford Internet site and configured the system. The VIN number is somehow used during the connection that is also allowed me to register my car at sync my ride so I could get ongoing software updates. As I recall I went through about three versions the first couple of years and then they quit doing updates for my older version of sync.

Did the OK and hang up button on the HMI work without programming?
Mine seems does not work.
Thanks.

My Sync was installed when I first got the car new, so after all these years it is hard to remember the details. The original hardware was installed by a contract installer at the dealer where I bought the car and then a few days later they had me go to another dealer that had the laptop and all the programming stuff.
I’m thinking during those in-between days not much work on the phone integration. I do remember the USB part working but I think with the manual controls on the radio. I remember being in the car when they were doing the programming and testing the voice commands for the USB and Phone.
The part with the VIN number being part of the programming process and the connection to the car’s service port surprised me. I expected that they would do the programming through the Sync USB port only.

What I did on mine (2012 base) was to buy another SYNC module from a wrecked 2012 model (eBay). Since it was already programmed, the HMI and voice commands worked (replacing the 2009 SYNC module that came with the kit).
You cand find them for less than $75 at eBay and it is probably easier and cheaper than finding someone to do the programming on a 2009 module.
I used the VIN from the wrecked 2012 Mustang that my SYNC module came from and got the updates for it (syncmyride.com).
This weekend I will install the auto-dimm mirror with mic and connect it to the SYNC module (instead of using the supplied mic from the 2009 kit).
