Default Going new to old??

Ok well I have a 06 v6 and get aprox 16-18 MPG Avg. mostly city, and its killing me at $4+ a gallon, my plan is to sell my car get aprox 10k, and buy a foxbody 5.0L and build it up on a budget for mostly street and some very limited track, and also buy a motorcycle (KLR650) for better milage (40-50ish)

What do you guys think?

Im thinkin buy the fox and KLR for aprox 2k each and aprox 1k in upgrades to each, this seem reasonable?

Thanks in advance

I think you should sell your v6 and get a v8, then open up exhaust a lil bit, add CAI, underdrive pulleys and a low octane tune and then I bet you will get better gas mileage than your v6 and have alot more power.

I have an 03Gt (not the fastest of stangs of course) but I got 25-26mpg highway and around 18-20 around town. From what Ive seen and read, the V8 get decent gas mpg with basic mods.

I get better gas mileage than alot of 6 cylinder vehicles. Everybody thinks smaller engine will waste less gas, but thats not true, those smaller engines have to work harder if the car is not compact. I get my about 20mixed driving and thats bone stock. I think if i add udp's, tune, cai, exhaust, I would probably bump that number up. Just my 02.

Another idea is to, sell your v6 and buy a v8 and then save up a lil bit and a buy an old compact 4cyl for around town. That way you can mod your v8 with anything and not worry about gas.

OR, Buy a 2011+ V6 Mustang and have 300hp with 30mpg.

your idea sounds pretty good, just make sure the 5.0 is reliable for when you need it

Very interesting plan for sure. I always thought one reason people bought the V6 was because the mpg's were all that and a bag of chips, I guess not eh lol

I get 20mpg with around town driving, and closer to 25mpg highway, and that's with a 75mph highway speed limit.

I would say you need to adjust your driving to get better mileage. Assuming you've done all routine maintenance on your vehicle, you can get great mileage, but you have to as was posted above try your best to make that happen. I get in cars with everybody else and find them speeding to red lights and stop signs, flying past everybody on the highway, and playing red light racer with their acceleration rates. These are all stupid ways to drive and hardly save you ANY time on a trip.

Don't get me wrong, I don't know that you drive like this necessarily lol, but often times the driver is to blame for bad gas mileage. Lately I've been getting easily over 25 highway in my car and around town I can get 18-19 if I'm not being a dumbass. (Rare occasion)

I would suggest saving up and just buying a bike. I have gone the route before of selling a newer vehicle to by something a little cheaper and better MPH but in the end feel like I was paying the same after maintenance. By the time you sell your Mustang buy a foxbody and motorcycle pay registration fees for both I really don't think you save that much. If you are doing it because you just want something new to drive I can completely understand that!
