depends.
what kind of racing are you doing, and what kind of power you puttin down.

if you just go occasionally, and only have bolt ons, then i would say you dont need them.
but they really arent that expensive anyways.

From the factory the chassis is pretty rigid, not necessarily the case with the older generations, so SFC are not really necessary. There are better suspension mods

you should look into some suspension packages. like sam strano, UPR, stangsuspension, etc.
is your suspension stock right now?

With the pre-2005 (S197) cars they were a "must" because of the flex in those bodies.

The person who told you that with your 2012 they are a "must" is thinking of older Mustangs. My convertible even doesn't flex - and I've driven a friend's S197 convertible with almost 600 to the rear wheels, lifting both front tires on the launch, and no flex. So if a convertible doesn't flex, then the coupe won't have a problem.
