Default Rattle / Buzz @ 1500 RPM

*Sigh*...

I hate when a car is great to me and then one thing goes wrong, and then it seems like its one problem after another...

I've developed a metallic rattle right at 1500 RPM. I've eliminated to exhaust hangers (had that before). Only occurs when the car is in gear (not neutral). Noticed it this morning on initial startup. Seemed to go away after about 5 minutes. Noticed again on startup on way home. Seemed to go away after 5 minutes. Showed up again right when I got home.

I'm hoping someone will say, "that can't be your cats, its most likely _____________"

Help?

I might try and throw a video up tomorrow if I can...

One of 3 things:
  1. axleback clamps - torque an additional 1/4-1/2 turn (or more if they're loose)
  2. separator plate - read the TSB
  3. heat shields
I had that metallic rattle at about 1500-1800 RPM and it went away after the exhaust system heated up. #1 fixed it for me.

My 05 had this problem too, after a long and arduous process I determined it was the heat shields like ^Nuke said. On mine it was the heat shields surrounding the H-pipe. Hope you get it figured out!

Turns out the weld on one of my axlebacks had failed and the hanger was rattling like a mother. After removing the bracket I could strum on the thing and it would chatter for 10 seconds plus....

Pretty crappy weld from Pypes if you ask me, they're only about 2 years old...

Yeah I've noticed that pypes and flowmasters have some pretty god-awful welds on them. Glad you figured it out though.

+1 classic symptoms if you search. try a couple of rubber washers on the bottom two bellhousing bolts as a cheap fix.
