Mustang GT or Corvette (base model)

08+ vette or 2011+ mustang is a hard choice
08 vette 430 hp , a bit lighter and probably a bit better performance, more expensive, probably no warrantee if you got one for near the same price as a mustang. no rear seat.
2011 mustang, newer, warrantee, good power, rear seats
for a pre 2008 vette vs 2011+ mustang, id probably go with the mustang.
for the price of a well equipped or nice edition 2012 vette you may be able to get a 2013 gt500 with 650 hp stock

Speaking from someone who has had both an Vette and now a '07 GT, I prefer the Mustang hands down. Now I had a much older Vette and they have come along way since my '89 but they are also a lot more expensive now too.
Below are a few reasons that I make the jump from Vette to Stang...
I was tired of paying the "Corvette Tax" for parts and labor on the big stuff (major engine repairs/mods, body mods, etc)
I quickly realized that most (not all) Vette owners have a "better than you" mentality, this has not been my experience with the Mustang community.
I really like the comfort of the Mustang, I feel like I could drive this car across the country with no problems, didn't feel this way in the Vette.
Parts are VERY reasonable for the Mustang and there are a TON of options for you to take the car in just about any direction you want to go.
...oh yeah and a back seat

I was deciding between a 05-09 ish vette or a new mustang gt a couple of months ago... You see what i ended up with. The interior of the vettes is in no way nicer than a premium model mustang. That said, they are beasts. The torque in the lower rpm range is incredible. Although in a straight line, a new 5.0 will give a vette all it can handle. Throw some turns in the mix, and the corvette is the clear winner, although a new mustang is no slouch in the handling department either.. But, after lots or research online, i decided that the maintainence costs of the vette were just too much for me. Plus any parts you plan on modding are gonna be waaay more than they would be on the stang. Plus with a new stang, you get a 5 year warranty. Anyway, no one can tell you which car is best for you. Drive them both, and make the decision for yourself.

i love vettes, when i worked at road atlanta they were so exciting to see carving up those corners, but there were gt500 leading the pack in the gt cup races, i like the feel of a mustang better the the feel of a vette, (i have driven both). i like my mustang better than any other muscle car i have driven, hell truth be told i wouldnt mind having a ws6 trans am with heads cam, but they dont sit right once your inside of them, same with the vette, it just feels so long looking over the hood IMO

My wife says " you have to be 50, Hawaiian shirt, chest hair hanging out with a young blonde in the seat."
Like above stated, shoot for the Shelby with 650 HP; beats both models you're referring too.
I've driven a vette: Fast as hell, nice, too many people look at you and I am not really into that. Traction is excellent and yes, it will beat a mustang generally.
Back seats are a plus for most.....parts are cheap… aftermarket availability.
Reliability - not sure on the vette, but I am on my 3rd stang
99 bought with 104K drove for four year and sold with 167K 0 issues romped it DAILY!
07 bought with 18K drove hard as hell and traded at 42K again 0 issues
my 5.0 is in the shop now getting new motor/tranny. Am I paying, NO. Warranty my friend, but keep it stock. Technically to me, 0 issues since ford is repairing for free and giving me a rental car that gets 30 MPG LOL.
In all honesty, I would not buy a 50K vette or Shelby unless - I could just about pay cash for it. Something about a car that's that expensive tells me to not finance it because I can't afford it lol. On the other hand the common mustang GT is a different story. Then again, I do not know maintenance or up keep on a vette.....
If you get a vette - don't be shy get a Z06
